Happy Belated Canada Day!

So me and my roommates are pretty tight. And I mean that in the we’re-tight-as-in-close way, as well as the we’re-tight-as-in-awesome way. I’ll tell you why: yesterday we dressed up to go to church and we all wore red and white in honor of it being Canada Day. Well The Canadian wore it in honor of Canada, and the other roommate and I wore it as half-Canadian, half-good ol’ red, white, and blue, since 4th of July is this Wednesday.

When we got home, we ate a Canadian dish, “poutine.” Since it’s pronounced “poo-teen,” we understandably made fun of The Canadian for wanting us to eat it. But it turns out it’s basically mashed potatoes, but with french fries instead. It’s french fries, gravy, and it’s supposed to be cheese curds, but we used normal shredded mozzarella. It was pretty delicious.

But in honor of Canada Day, I’m going to feature a Canadian artist. Ready, set:

JUSTIN BIEBER!

Never Say Never (Justin Bieber song)

(Also, I can never spell bieber right, I have to look it up everytime. Also, I accidentally added an “e” to justin when I first wrote this. Totally subconsciously)

I’m just kidding, I’m not really going to feature Justin Bieber, although no one can say that Never Say never was not a good movie! Ha . . .

But the real artist is City and Colour, whom I have mentioned before.

The Girl, by City and Colour

But Dallas Green, a.k.a. City and Colour is wonderful! A couple months ago, I was listening to the i heart radio app (by the way, I fought against downloading this app for a long time because their commercials were so irritating, but I eventually broke down, and it is a great app! I like it better than Pandora by a long shot, and for now, it is ad-less, which is awesome) and a song came on, and I was like, “I know this voice!” It was City and Colour, but I knew the voice from Alexisonfire, specifically from the song “To a Friend” because that’s my favorite. But I love his voice, and he can do so much with it! Just listen to “The Girl” and you’ll see what I mean. Another good one from him is Little Hell, or check out As Much As I Ever Could.

Listening to him is really pretty relaxing. I love a great acoustic song! Give him a listen, and tell me how you like it. Also, tell me what you did for Canada Day, or plans for 4th of July! What a great holiday- food and fireworks, nothing better.

  1. Go Canada! I’m so glad you have a canadian roommate who influences you towards canadianism. Being canadian is great! haha Well I’m actually gonna celebrate canada day on my birthday, which is july 7th, and it’s going to be pretty legit. And the main course will be poutine of course! I’m so glad to hear that you liked it too by the way. Also great song! Shameful to say that I’ve never heard of city and colour, but I think I’m gonna like them a lot :). Can I just point out that they spelt “colour” the canadian way, love it!
